The Father
Behind the scenes and often opening the set is the father, a DJ whose roots go back to the vinyl age of the 70s, 80s and 90s.
" He was already behind the decks during the golden era of 90s hiphop, when Tupac and biggie were alive and their fresh sound was shaping the culture. "
His DJ journey began when he learnt the art of DJing in the 90s using the classic Pioneer DDJ-500 MK2 CDJs combined with the legendary Pioneer DJM-500 mixer (In Photo). Back then, there were no laptops, waveforms, sync buttons or cue-point technology—just CDs, instinct, timing and a deep understanding of the music. Every mix was beatmatched by ear, with the DJM-500 providing the tools to blend tracks smoothly and creatively. Those early days built the foundation of a DJ—developing the skills, discipline and passion that continue through the TEQ Beats sound today.

With a deep knowledge of disco, hip-hop, reggae, funk, rock and classic dance tunes, he helps set the vibe early in the night, warming up the crowd and building the energy for the main set
While his role is mainly supporting and opening, his experience means he has the skills, musical knowledge, and DJ ability to step in and run a full set whenever needed.
DJ TEQ (Rae) Son
Rae exploded onto the DJ scene in 2020 as DJ TEQ, quickly becoming a standout crowd favourite across local nightclubs and social events. Known for his high-energy performances and technical mixing skills, he first made his mark in the Drum & Bass scene, delivering powerful sets packed with anthem bangers blended with underground funk influences. The result was a unique sound that connected with both young and older audiences, creating sets often described as fresh feel-good energy from start to finish.
Since emerging onto the scene, Rae has performed on main stage clubs, mini festivals and major night life events, proudly opening for nationally recognised acts.
These performances quickly established him as a DJ capable of controlling large crowds and delivering unforgettable dancefloor moments.
More recently, Rae has expanded his sound into open format DJing, seamlessly blending core genres such as Hip-Hop, House, Top 40, Old Skool, and EDM. This versatility has secured him regular bookings both locally and regionally, performing in clubs, private functions, and corporate events.
Rae’s strength lies not only in his technical ability but in his deep music knowledge and crowd connection. His carefully selected tracks and confident stage presence consistently create the positive, high-energy atmosphere that keeps dancefloors moving.
KAE (Mikaere) Son
Based in Dunedin, KAE is a new generation of DJ, developing his skills and building his own sound, with a strong focus on Afro Beats and 2000s R&B. Bringing together infectious rhythms, smooth grooves and nostalgic R&B favourites, he is learning the craft of DJing while developing the confidence, technique and musical style needed to connect with any crowd.
